About 18 years ago I began learning how to build my own 401k plan while working in corporate America in the banking industry. What I learned quickly was that there was a need for people to learn how to build a consistent 401k or 403b retirement plans. To my surprise there was no one available to teach or instruct me or my co-workers on how to build a plan. Yes, there was the corporate benefits website but no specific guidance. I was told how to create a plan with a username, password and how to contribute at least up to the company’s matching contributions. This made me curious, so I began to ask my benefits administrator questions about building my personal plan with the company’s allocations and funds.
After a few years of training, I acquired enough knowledge and experience to build and diversify my plan utilizing online resources, quarterly online webinars and mentorships from my company’s benefits administrators.. I was inspired by my ability to learn through discovery and research and began to share my knowledge with my co-workers and staff members. About 6 years after building my plan while teaching and sharing with others, I had developed a solid plan for my retirement goals. My passion continued for years after leaving the financial industry and led me to the
point I am today. I am teaching others to learn how to educate themselves for their future. The Key is to START and learn make a difference for yourself.
